I am an Oakland, Ca resident and self-taught maker. 3D printing is another step on my journey of discovery. It started in 2008 when I launched studio44eighty. My goal was to make the perfect peppermill. One I had seen, but one that was not available to buy. I launched the website, approached Heath Ceramics and they became my flagship reseller. I use hand-selected domestic hardwoods and really fantastic Danish ceramic grinding mechanisms to create heirloom quality peppermills. Lathe turning is something I've been passionate about for years, tapping into my childhood memories surrounded by clean lined and mid-century designs.
It's amazing putting an unassuming, rough piece of wood on the lathe and as the layers are turned away, beautiful patterns emerge. It always makes me smile.
I also draw inspiration from my professional background in architecture and the building industry, believing that the energy I put into the making process directly affects the outcome.
